Realize Band!

The Realize Band is a preventive type of weight loss surgery. It comprises two devices that are rooted at the same time during surgery. It is made of a strong and flexible silicone. Surgeon warps the band completely around the upper part of your stomach. It creates a narrow passage and a small pouch to the lower stomach. This small passage and pouch delays the emptying of food from the pouch and causes a feeling of fullness.

The Realize Band is generally performed laparoscopically. It’s meaning that your surgeon makes small incisions as opposed to one large incision. He includes a viewing tube with a small camera (laparoscope) and other tiny instruments into these small incisions to perform gastric banding.

Today it is widely accepted by obese patients around all over the world. After using Realize Band surgery, starts with a light liquid diet for the first two weeks, to give swelling in the stomach a chance to go down. Experts advise sipping at least eight cups of low-calorie and non-carbonated liquids during the first week or two after surgery to stave off dehydration. The liquid diet is followed by two or more weeks of light solid pureed foods, and then solids. Each surgeon likely has his own detailed recovery diet.

To compare with other type of Weight loss surgery, Realize Band has following advantages:

  • It is reversible and adjustable.
  • It has less invasive and operating time.
  • Lower risk of dumping syndrome, which occurs when the undigested stomach contents are "dumped" into your small intestine too quickly.
  • Improves health problems related to excessive weight including type2 diabetes, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, high blood pressure and asthma.
  • Slow and steady weight loss.

It has also few risks factors. Like

  • Stomach pain
  • Bleeding
  • Shoulder pain
  • Complications due to anesthesia and medications
  • Deep vein thrombosis
  • Slippage of the band with persistent vomiting if behavioral changes are not made
  • Erosion of the band into the inside of the stomach
  • Gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD), when stomach contents rise up into the esophagus (tube that carries food from the mouth to the stomach)
  • Infection
  • Stroke or heart attack
  • And may be death.
